The Blue Hole of Belize is one of the most extraordinary natural wonders of the world. The Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its deep blue color, resulting from its depth and the clarity of the surrounding waters contrasts sharply with the lighter blue of the shallower areas. The site gained international fame when it was explored by Jacques Cousteau in 1971, who declared it one of the top ten diving sites in the world. Divers and snorkelers are drawn by its unique geological formations, diverse marine life, and crystal-clear waters.
